Formula 1 2018 at Spa-Francorchamps

Logtnest Photography Formula 1 2018 at Spa-Francorchamps Formula 1 at Spa-Francorchamps 2018

Since 1921 there have been races in the area of Spa-Francorchamps. First on normal roads, and since 1979 on the new and shorter circuit. The old 14 km track was very fast and knew some deadly accidents. That is why the Formula 1 that was held on the track since 1950 left in the seventies. In 1983 the Formula 1 returned at Spa-Francorchamps.

Apart from a visit to the museum, I have never been at Spa-Francorchamps before. An old collegue, with whom I do more Photography trips, suggested to visit the Formula 1training day at Friday. Since the tickets are not very expensive and the traffic jams are not that bad. Those traffic jams  occur since Max Verstappen is a Formula 1 driver and many fans visit the circuit that is close to the Netherlands. On Friday there were two trainings for Formula 1 and some trainings and qualifications for Formula 2 and 3 as well.

During the first training we were standing near the eight turn. This turn is also known as Bruxelles or Rivage. After the first training we went to look for a better place and ended up at the outside of the cirquit in turn thirteen, known as Fagnes. We had a good view with little fences and were able to make completely different photos of the cars.

In all it was a good day, and we could do a lot of panning. I enjoy using slow shutter speed to get some movement in the photo. A visit to the circuit and Formula 1 will happen more often. I didn’t see the race on sunday at the circuit itself, but it sure was a nice race. There was a crash at the first turn, and Max performed well on the track that did not bring him much luck before.

Some of these photo’s are also for sale in my webshop.
